A Haven for Art Enthusiasts: Nestled in the heart of Chios town, the Municipal Art Gallery, overseen by the local government, is a must-visit for art lovers.
From Bathhouse to Gallery: The building’s history is as fascinating as the art it houses. Originally constructed between 1939 and 1954 by architect Ioannis Despotopoulos, it functioned as a public bathhouse until the mid-1970s. In 1984, under the leadership of Mayor Yiannis Boubaris, the space was transformed into the thriving art gallery it is today.
A Treasure Trove of Artistic Expression: The gallery boasts a permanent collection featuring works by renowned Greek artists like Diomataris and Mytarakis, alongside creations by contemporary Chiot talents. But the artistic journey doesn’t stop there. The gallery actively collaborates with other cultural institutions to host a variety of captivating art events, ensuring a dynamic and ever-evolving experience for visitors.
